Following the lead of Los Angeles and Santa Monica, the City Council of Malibu voted 4-1 to ban rentals less than 30 days. While Malibu is considering an outright ban, Santa Monica allows homeowner’s the ability to rent out a portion of their primary residence.
The timing is ironic, as fires threaten communities throughout Southern California, and Santa Ana winds are predicted to be at record-setting speeds for the rest of the week.
Many Airbnb host are offering their rentals at no cost to displaced fire victims.
